After a two-year sabbatical, Tarana Masand returns to the business of fashion designing with her new collection

Once upon a time Tarana played the role of a stylist for Malavika Arora Khan for a television show. She then worked for designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. And soon after, Tarana established her label, "Tarana Masand". She has also showcased at the LIFW (laKME India Fashion Week) which won her clients nationally and internationally. But her kids alternated her life wee bit. She says, "Last year I delivered twins so I decided to take a break but now I am ready with my new collection. And the photo shoot for the same is done by Jatin Kampani."

Her latest creations epitomise a rare blend of tradition and contemporary trends, inspired largely by the Mughal era. The cleverly crafted silhouettes created by swirls of rich fabrics like georgette, tulles and chiffon interspersed with ostentatious designs and they capture the subtle nuances of a woman, highlighting the beauty within. She adds, "The range comprises kurtas worn with tight churidars, saris and lehengas across a colour palate of pale subdued hues accentuated with self-embroidery, and a stronger, bolder, monochrome look of plums and reds."

Well, that"s not her only claim to fame. Tarana has an elaborate clientele to name some -Sridevi, Raveena Tandon and Neha Raheja. However Anjali Tendulkar shops a lot from Tarana. Speaking on her style, Tarana says, "Anjali prefers clothes that are chic and classy. Being a very quiet and elegant lady, Anjali likes to wear clothes that are not loud in terms of colours and embroidery. And she is so beautiful that she can carry off anything." But with so many designers and brands coming to India, is it getting difficult to survive in the industry?

She is quick to reply, "Fashion is all about being comfortable. The retail industry in India is on an all-time high. There is no reason for Indian designers to worry." Quizzing her about what"s next on her agenda, she says, "For now I want to design as many new designs and garments. I am guessing I will be ready to showcase at the Spring/Summer season the following year." Ahem!
